Art Enrichment

Possible Units of Study
Philosophy
Art is an integral part of the school’s social studies-based curriculum. Midtown West’s curriculum leads students through thematic units that move them from knowledge of themselves to knowledge of the broader world. My task is to bring these subjects into the art studio. By giving students visual ways to think about their studies, they make connections between literacy-oriented learning and visual material. The art studio is alive with authentic, hands-on experiences. MTW’s mission is to give students tools to apply what they learn in school to the outside world. Today, visual literacy is key. My goal is to make MTW’s students as visually literate as they are literate. Art education is not a luxury, but a necessity – a core element of elementary education that improves all students’ learning, now more than ever.
