In order to accomplish its lofty goals, Midtown West must reach outside its immediate family to ask for support for its innovative programming. Foundations, corporations and individuals have joined the Midtown West community by working in the school on New York Cares Day, by volunteering to mentor our children and through financial contributions. The feedback from these various supporters has been positive and uplifting. Not only have the children benefited, but the donors have reaped benefits as well. The Board of Education cannot provide funds for some of the programs that are essential to the educational philosophy of Midtown West. These include our Literacy Program that includes the Reading Volunteer Program, our Family Center, and our Library, our Music Program that includes the innovative Music and the Brain project, Orff Schulwerk music lessons and the Midtown West Chorus, our Hands-on Science Program, and the Midtown West Chess Club. The Midtown West PTA must raise over $150,000 annually to be able to supplement the standard curriculum with these fine and important programs. "It takes a village to raise a child" is an oft-quoted phrase. Here at Midtown West, we feel that it takes a community to educate a child and we have created a marvelous community to do so. We have a community of educators, of learners, of families, of mentors, of friends, and of volunteers. We invite you to become part of the Midtown West community and help educate our children.
Note: This is a permanent standing committee as specified in the MTW PTA Bylaws.
